When house hunting it can be easy to fall in love with the first house that you truly like. This is especially true if you’ve been looking at homes that haven’t impressed you much. However, be sure to look into the following things before you fall head over heels for a new home:
- Can you afford it? – Don’t look at it in terms of just the down payment and mortgage payments. Think about the utility costs, the cost of maintenance, the cost of potential repairs as well as your regular cost of living as well.
- Will the neighborhood change? – In addition to researching the current state of the neighborhood, such as the crime rate and the school system, find out if there are any plans for the future. You don’t want to a buy a home if a freeway is planned for right across the street.
- How convenient is it? – How far is work? How far do you have to drive to get to the nearest gas station, grocery store, bank and other amenities?
